10/10/2008 - Otologic and Cochlear Implant Surgery Update - 1st Course

On 10th and 11th October at IPO Hospital the first course about an update of Otologic and Cochlear Implant Surgery took place, promoted by IPO Hospital, and coordinated by Dr. Rogério Hamerschmidt. The event took place in the hospital's amphitheater and included the participation of more than 70 Otorhinolaryngology doctors and residents from various parts of Paraná, and the states of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Pará.
Various surgeries were performed and transmitted live to the amphitheater, including Cochlear Implant Surgery, which was a success.
This surgery allows for the recuperation of hearing in people with total bilateral deafness, using an implanted electrode, a "chip" close to the auditory nerve.
